Introduction

  • As we know biology means study of living being, so microbiology means study of living microorganisms but here we are concerned only with microorganisms causing diseases in human being, so in medical college subject taught is called medical microbiology.  Medical microbiology is further subdivided into 1. General microbiology 2. Immunology 3. Mycology 4. Parasitology 5. Virology 6. Bacteriology. According to new CBME now except first two subdivisions all other subdivisions are merged into one Clinical microbiology.  Moreover, students will be taught biomedical waste disposal management and hospital infection control along with some ATCOM topics as per NMC guideline.

Goal & Objective

  • To study microorganisms causing diseases in human being, especially their habit and habitat, their sensitivity and resistance to which chemicals, method of their laboratory diagnosis both direct and indirect methods. So in short first we want to establish their etiology with diseases and secondly we want to kill them in such a way without harming human tissue. Here students are taught even mode of transmission of the infectious diseases and available vaccines,  so accordingly it helps in prevention of the diseases with these knowledge. In short here we teach micro-organisms causing disease, methods of laboratory diagnosis both direct and indirect way, selection of antibiotics and even prevention by available vaccines.
